Three-day programmes to observe Rokeya Day in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Dec 05, 2018 (BSS) – The district administration has completed
preparations to observe the Rokeya Day-2018 with three-day programmes at her
birthplace Pairaband village in Mithapukur upazila here from December 9 next.

Deputy Commissioner and President of the Rokeya Day Observance Committee
Enamul Habib said the observance will begin with placing of wreaths at Begum
Rokeya Smritistambha in Pairaband village at 9 am on December 9.

The inaugural day programmes also include milad mahfil, screening of
documentary films, spontaneous blood donation, blood group tests and
inauguration of three-day `Rokeya Fair’ followed by discussion, staging drama
and cultural function.

Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Joynul Bari will address the discussion
as the chief guest with Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib in the chair.

Deputy Inspector General for Rangpur Range of Bangladesh Police Devdas
Bhattacharya will address the discussion as the special guest.

Mithapukur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mamunur Rashid will delivered welcome
speech.

Noted educationist and Rokeya researcher Professor Mohammad Shah Alam
will present keynote essay on “Begum Rokeya’s Non-communal and Equity
Thoughts” in the discussion.

Assistant Professor of the Department of Accounting and Information
System of Begum Rokeya University Omar Faruk and General Secretary of Begum
Rokeya Smritikendra Rafikul Islam Dulal will take part as main discussants.

On December 10, drawing, poem recitation, essay writing and debate
competitions for the students in different categories and screening of
documentary films will be organised.

Vice-chancellor of Begum Rokeya University Professor Dr Nazmul Ahsan
Kalimullah will attend the discussion as the chief guest with Additional
Deputy Commissioner (General) Syed Enamul Kabir in the chair.

Police Super Mizanur Rahman and Deputy Director (Local Government) Ruhul
Amin Mian as special guests will address the discussion to be followed by
staging of drama and cultural function.

Noted educationist Dr Nasima Akhter will present keynote essay on
“Contemporary Freedom of Women and Begum Rokeya’s Thoughts” while Professor
Arefina Begum of Begum Rokeya Government College will take part as main
discussant.

On the concluding day on December 11, Professor of the Department of
Bengali of Begum Rokeya University Dr Sorifa Salowa Dina will present keynote
paper on “Begum Rokeya’s Thoughts on Motherland” in the discussion.

Assistant Professor of Kawnia Degree College Professor Dr Swasswato
Bhattacharya and former Regional Director of Rangpur Kendra of Bangladesh
Betar Monwara Begum will take part as main discussants.

Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Abdullah Sajjad will
address the concluding day discussion as the chief guest with Deputy Director
(Local Government) Ruhul Amin Mian in the chair.

Additional Divisional Commissioner (Revenue) Abu Taher Md Masud Rana and
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Sharif Muhammad Foyezul Alam will
address as special guests.

The chief guest will distribute prizes and medals among winners of
different competitions in the concluding ceremony to be followed by staging
of drama and cultural function at night.
