Shahjahan Khan for more employment opportunity for disabled

DHAKA, Jan 1, 2018 (BSS) – Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan yesterday urged the non government and commercial institutes to create more employment opportunities for the disabled people.

“Government initiatives are not enough. Non government and commercial institutes needed to be more aware in creating employment for physically challanged people of the country,” he said speaking at a views exchange meeting at National Press Club in the city organised by ‘National Disability Forum (NDF)’ with the support of ‘Access Bangladesh Foundation’ and ‘Disability Rights Fund (DRF)’.

Senior Vice President of NDF Major (retd) Eyad Ali Fakir presided over the meeting titled, ‘Employment of Differently Abled People: Role of Media’ while Coordination (Programme) M Mosharraf Hossain presented the key note paper.

Describing different initiatives taken by the government to mainstream the differently disabled people, the minister said, “Government is sincere to reserve 10 per cent quota for them and would take essential steps to fulfill other facilities”.

He said government has been providing allowance of Taka 700 each among 8.25 lakh and stipend Taka 500-1200 each among 80,000 differently abled people.

Additional Secretary of Social Welfare affairs Sushanto Kumer Pramanik, Dhaka Union of Journalist (DUJ) President Shaban Mahmud, NDF Director General Dr Senila Akhter were present, among others , on the occasion.
