DHAKA, Dec 4, 208 (BSS) – The Dhaka University (DU) authorities has
appointed Assistant Professor of Graphics Design Department Sima Islam as
assistant proctor of the university.
She became the first female assistant proctor in the history of the
university established in 1921.
“There was no female teacher in the proctorial body of Dhaka University.
Fine Art Faculty’s Sima Islam will now work with us. We are considering
appointment of more female assistant proctors to fulfill the demand of time,”
DU proctor Dr AKM Golam Rabbani told BSS.
“I was delighted to get the appointment letter on Monday. Female students
face various challenges on the campus and sometimes they cannot share those
with male teachers. I think women empowerment has been established through
this appointment,” Sima said.
Sima Islam now becomes a member of the proctorial team consisting of one
proctor and eleven assistant proctors.
The body is responsible for maintaining disciplines on the campus. The
team also performs other duties bestowed upon them by the university
authorities.
