Media role important to expedite family welfare services: speakers

RAJSHAHI, Dec 31, 2017 (BSS) – Speakers at a function here stressed the
need for responsible role of media for reaching the services of family
welfare, maternal-infant and adolescent health on the doorsteps of the
people.

The observation came in an advocacy meeting held at the conference hall of
Babies and Maternal Care Clinic in the city yesterday.

Department of Family Planning (DFP) organised the event to mark the
opening of ‘Family Planning, Mother-Infant-Juvenile Health Service and
Campaign Week-2017’.

It is supposed to be observed in all unions, upazilas and districts
simultaneously from December 30 to 4th January, 2018.

Additional Commissioner of Rajshahi division Aminul Islam and Divisional
Director of DFP Malay Kumar Roy addressed the discussion as chief and special
guests respectively with its Deputy Director Dr Nasim Akhter in the chair.

Deputy Commissioner Helal Mahmud Sharif spoke as resource persons.

The discussants observed that collective efforts of all government and non-
government organisations is very crucial to make all the fertile couples
conscious about family planning.

Highlighting the necessity of expediting the village-level family planning
activities, the speakers underlined the need for giving top priority to
motivate the fertile couples so that they could control their unwanted
pregnancy through using contraceptives.

Antenatal care and institutional delivery are considered as the effective
means of preventing various types of high risk factors like pre-eclampsia,
post-eclampsia, ante-partum hemorrhage, post-partum hemorrhage and obstructed
labor.

Aminul Islam said there is no way to create public awareness about family
planning and that is very important to attain the cherished goal. Role of
media is vital in this regard.
