3 visually-challenged DU students get scholarships

DHAKA, Nov 28, 2018 (BSS) – Three visually-impaired students of Dhaka University (DU) have received “LG Life’s Good Trust Fund Scholarship for Physically Challenged Students”.

DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman along with LG Electronics Bangladesh Managing Director DK Son handed over the scholarship cheques to three students at a function at VC’s lounge of the university today, a DU press release said.

The recipients are Shahanaj Aktar (First year, History Dept), Enmanuel Titu Mondol (Forth year, Sociology Dept) and Taslima Sultana Mitu (B.Ed, IER).

Chairman of History Department Prof Dr Ahmed Abdullah Jamal, Acting Director of the Institute of Education and Research (IER) Prof Dr Abdul Malek and Head of Consumer Electronics of LG Electronics Bangladesh Mahmudul Hasan were present on the occasion with DU Treasurer Prof Kamal Uddin in the chair.

Speaking at the function, Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman said: “Differently able students need different type of supports to realise their dream. This LG trust fund for physically disabled students will undoubtedly support and inspire them to go ahead in life”.

D K Son, Managing Director of LG Electronics Bangladesh, said fighting many obstacles, the differently able students came to the stage of higher education and have proven themselves.

South Korea-based LG Electronics handed over a cheque for Tk 10 lakh to set up this trust fund last year.

Out of the income of this donation, every year three physically-challenged, underprivileged and meritorious students of the Arts Faculty of the university are awarded with Tk 12,000 each as “LG Life’s Good Trust Fund Scholarship”.
