Strict enforcement of Consumers’ Rights Protection Act stressed
RANGPUR, Nov 26, 2018 (BSS) – Creating adequate social awareness has
become imperative for ensuring strict enforcement of the Consumers’ Right
Protection Act, 2009, to free the common people from food poisoning,
contaminations and related diseases.
The observations came at a seminar on ‘Enhancing Public Awareness
through Publicity of the Consumers’ Right Protection Act, 2009,’ organised by
the district administration at conference room of Dinajpur Deputy
Commissioner in Dinajpur town today.
The Department of National Consumer Rights Protection extended
assistance in arranging the event participated by the fruits’, vegetables’
and fish traders, journalists, pharmaceutical shop owners, civil society
members and common consumers.
Presided over by Deputy Commissioner of Dinajpur Md Mahmudul Hassan,
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Dr Md Shaheed Hossain Chowdhury
moderated the seminar.
Assistant Director of the Department of National Consumer Rights
Protection for Dinajpur Mamtaz Begum delivered PowerPoint presentation
narrating various aspects of the Consumers’ Rights Protection Act, 2009.
She discussed the departmental activities and steps taken for proper
enforcement the Consumers’ Rights Protection Act, 2009 to ensure rights of
the common consumers in Dinajpur district.
“As a result of enacting the act and its implementation so far, the
common consumers have already started getting huge benefits of the act and
becoming more aware of their rights of getting pure food and other products,”
she added.
District Controller of Food for Dinajpur Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman,
President of Dinajpur Chamber Sujaur Rahman Suja, Additional District
Livestock Officer Dr Asahika Akbar Trisha, District Drug Super Rafikul Islam,
District marketing Officer Rabiul Hassan, General Secretary of District unit
of Consumers Association of Bangladesh Mohammad Shakha, among others,
addressed.
The speakers called for enhancing public awareness and strict
enforcement of the Consumers’ Rights Protection Act, 2009, to protect rights
of the consumers for saving public health from food poisoning, other
contamination and health hazards.
They stressed on making business community, traders, chamber leaders and
common consumers aware of severe consequences of supply, sale and consumption
of adulterated and poisonous foods.
The Deputy Commissioner urged the traders and representatives of
business bodies for adopting effective measures against supply and marketing
of adulterated and poisonous foods to protect public health and save human
lives.
