Court indicts 8 accused in Holey Artisan Bakery attack case

DHAKA, Nov 26, 2018 (BSS) – A Dhaka court today indicted eight accused in sensational Holey Artisan Bakery attack case.

Anti-Terrorism Special Tribunal Judge Md Mojibur Rahman framed the charges in presence of six accused out of the total eight.

“You have killed 20 people by conducting a pre-planned militant attack at Gulshan’s Holey Artisan Bakery to tarnish the image of the country in the international arena. You later killed two police officers by hurling grenades,” the court said.

Later the court asked the accused whether they are pleading guilty or not. All the six accused, who were present on the dock, but Razib Gandhi pleaded not guilty.

The court later set December 3 for starting examining the witnesses in the case.

The accused are: Aslam Hossain alias Rashed alias Abu Jarra alias Rash, Hadisur Rahman Sagar, Mijanur Rahman alias Boro Mijan, Rakibul Hasan Rigan, Jahangir Alam alias Rajib alias Rajib Gandhi, Abdus Sobur Khan (Hasan) Sohel Mahfuz, Md mamunur Rashid and Md Shariful Islam.

Of the eight, Mamunur Rashid and Shariful Islam are yet to be arrested.

Police on July 23, 2018, submitted the charge sheet against eight ‘militants’ in connection with the case of extremist attack on Gulshan’s Holey Artisan Bakery in the capital on July 1 in 2016 in which 20 people, mostly foreigners, were killed.

Earlier on July 1, 2016, Neo-JMB operatives laid a siege to the Gulshan cafe and killed 20 hostages, including 17 foreigners while two police officers were also killed in the attack.
