DHAKA, Nov 25, 2018 (BSS) – Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq today said the present government believes in the freedom of judiciary and it would not make any compromise on this issue.

“A country sees development only with the prevalence of rule of law, when judiciary remains free and people believe that they will get justice if they knock the doors of the court,” he said.

The minister said these while addressing the 24th training course for district and session judges and metropolitan session judges at Judicial Administration Training Institute (JATI) here in the capital.

“Former chief justice Surendra Kumar had proposed that the apex court acting on its own motion can take steps against lower court judges over anonymous complaints. It was an attempt to keep the judges hostage and satisfying personal interests. If this proposal was accepted, judges would not been able to work independently,” Anisul added.

The minister said the judiciary would have become free much earlier provided Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was alive.

Presided over by JATI Director General Justice Khondker Musa Khaled, the ceremony was addressed also by Law and Justice Division Secretary Abu Saleh Sheikh Md Zahirul Haque.
