An official at the Planning Commission told the national news agency
that in continuation of the successful implementation of the country’s first
Perspective Plan (2010-2021), the government has already undertaken a project
to formulate a roadmap to turn Bangladesh into a prosperous and developed one
in the South Asia by 2041.

The project titled ‘Mid-term evaluation of Perspective Plan (2010-2021)
and formulation of Vision 2041’ is being implemented with a cost of Taka 8.22
crore.

In the first phase of the project, a mid-term evaluation will be done on
the first Perspective Plan (2010-2021). Then, in the second phase, the 2nd
Perspective Plan (2021-2041) of the country will be formulated to further
expedite the country’s development and thus turn Bangladesh into a developed
nation.

The government is also going on with the Bangladesh Delta Plan 2100
aiming to formulate an integrated plan with financial assistance from the
Netherlands.

This integrated long-term plan of around 50 to 100 years will aim to
ensure proper water resources management, food security, and sustainable
economic growth through putting due importance on agriculture, water
resources, land, industry, afforestation and fisheries considering climate
change issues and its impacts.

The government is implementing a notable number of transformational mega
projects, which are expected to boost the country’s GDP growth.

The projects include Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant with Taka 1,13,092.91
crore, Matarbari 2×600 MW ultra super critical coal-fired power project with
Taka 35,984.45 crore, Padma Multipurpose Bridge Project (2nd revised) with
Taka 28,793.39 crore, Padma Bridge Rail Link Project with Taka 34,988.86
crore and Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development Project with Taka 21,985.07
crore.

Among other major successes and achievements of the present government
in the development sector include Bangabandhu Satellite Launching project
with Taka 2,967.95 crore, E-judiciary pilot project with Taka 32,746.09
crore, Construction of multilane road tunnel under the River Karnaphuli
project with Taka 11,881.12 crore, SASEC road connectivity project II:
Elenga-Hatikumrul-Rangpur Road to a 4-lane highway with Taka 11,881.12 crore.

The other major development initiatives of the present Awami League
government are Joydevpur-Mymensingh road development project with Taka
1,815.12 crore, Construction of Jamuna railway bridge project with Taka
9,734.07 crore, Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport extension project (1st
phase) with Taka 13,610 crore and Construction of apartments for the low and
mid-income people at Uttara Sector 18 (1st revised) with Taka 10,902.21
crore.
