Classy Mominul equals two records on day 1 in 1st Test

CHATTROGRAM, Nov 22, 2018 (BSS)- The Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium once
again proved to be the lucky ground for Mominul Haque, who scored another
commanding century against West Indies on the first day of the first Test on
Thursday.

The diminutive batsman completed his eighth career Test century, equaling
his fellow mate Tamim Iqbal for most hundreds by a Bangladesh batsman as the
Tigers reached 216-3 at tea. Tamim’s eight Test centuries came from 56
matches while Mominul reached his 8th hundred playing only his 32nd Test
matches.

The century not only equaled Tamim Iqbal with most number of Test hundreds
for Bangladesh but also matched Indian batting star Virat Kohli’s feat of
most Test hundreds by a batsman in this year. Kohli did it in 18 innings
while Mominul took 13 innings to get there. He also scored sixth century in
this venue from just eight matches.

Mominul’s dominant innings kept West Indies at bay till the second session
of the day. He also got his second life on 67 when wicket-keeper Shane
Dowrich couldn’t hold the catch behind the wicket off leg-spinner Devendra
Bishoo’s delivery.

During the course of making century, Mominul also shared 104 runs for the
second wicket stand with opener Imrul Kayes (44). The diminutive batsman
played an impressive 120-run off 167-ball laced with 10 boundaries and one
over boundary before Shannon Gabriel picked up his wicket in the post tea.
