DHAKA, Nov 22, 2018 (BSS) – Family welfare service and publicity week will begin on Saturday across the country with the theme “Increasing Institutional Delivery, Ensuring Post Delivery Family Planning”.
Medical Education and Family Welfare Division GM Saleh Uddin disclosed the information at a press conference at the secretariat.
He said Directorate General of Family Planning observes the week every year for providing services as per the people’s expectation and encouraging every workers in providing services to people.
Saleh Uddin said as part of the countrywide programme, advocacy meeting and press briefing will be held at divisional and district level and advocacy meeting at upazila level.
The secretary said special camps on family planning will be held every day at every service centre in the field level while check-up and delivery services will be provided to expectant mothers. Necessary medicines have already been ensured in this regard, he added.
He said child marriage should be stopped to reduce maternal mortality rate to build planned families.
Saleh Uddin said 40 percent maternal mortality rate has reduced in the last one decade. Family planning programme of the government has played an important role in this regard, he added.
He said nowadays 50 percent delivery is being done by skilled midwifes while it was 27 percent in 2010.
