BGB-BSF agree to curbing cross-border crimes

RANGPUR, Nov 22, 2018 (BSS) – Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) and Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at a battalion commander level flag meeting held on Kurigram frontier today agreed to extend cooperation in curbing cross-border crimes.

“Initiated by BGB side, the meeting was held on Gorak Mandal Uchatari border inside Bangladesh territory near boundary pillar No- 929/5S in Phulbari upazila of Kurigram district under jurisdiction of Lalmonirhat 15 BGB battalion,” a press release said.

Commanding Officer of Lalmonirhat 15 BGB battalion Lieutenant Colonel Md Anwar-Ul-Alam led the six member BGB delegation while the six-member BSF delegation was led by Commandant of 38 BSF battalion Rajwant Singh Thakur in the meeting.

The meeting discussed issues like prevention of cross-border crimes, illegal intrusion and trespassing of criminals, arms, explosives and ammunition on the eve of parliamentary elections in Bangladesh, smuggling and drug trafficking and other related matters.

“Both sides agreed to cooperate in curbing cross-border crimes, illegal intrusion of criminals, smuggling and trafficking of drugs, arms, explosives and ammunition in the meeting,” the release added.

After the meeting, Lieutenant Colonel Anwar-Ul-Alam told the national news agency that the meeting was held successfully in a very friendly, cooperative and cordial atmosphere between the two neighbouring border guards.

Earlier, Lieutenant Colonel Anwar-Ul-Alam welcomed his counterpart BSF Battalion Commandant Rajwant Singh Thakur with wreaths on arrival of the BSF delegation on the zero line in the morning.
