Govt orders stopping local ads on foreign TV channels
DHAKA, Nov 20, 2018 (BSS) – The government has issued a notification to stop immediately the airing of advertisements of locally produced goods on foreign television channels downlinked in Bangladesh.
The notification issued recently by the Ministry of Information said as per the Bangladesh Cable Television Network Act-2006, no local advertisements can be aired on foreign channels, said an official release here today.
Yet, local advertisements are being aired on some foreign TV channels which is a violation of the act, the release added.
Those TV channels which will air the local advertisements violating the Bangladesh Cable Television Network Act would face punishment, including cancelation/suspension of their distribution licenses and jail terms for up to two years, the press release said.
