DHAKA, Nov 19, 2018 (BSS) – Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today said BNP fugitive acting chairman Tarique Rahman’s interviewing of the party nomination aspirants through videoconference is a violation of a court verdict.

“We have drawn the attention of the Election Commission on logical ground. Otherwise, we will consider going to the court for getting justice,” he told a press conference at the party president’s Dhanmondi political office.

Quader said Tarique, a convict, is taking interview of nomination seekers of the party through videoconference from London. “Such act is violation of electoral code of conduct,” he said.

AL Joint General Secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, Organising Secretary Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Office Secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap, Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi, Forest and Environment Affairs Secretary Delwar Hossain, Deputy Office Secretary Barrister Biplab Barua and Central Working Committee Member Marufa Akhter Poppy were present on the occasion.

Quader said BNP leaders were claiming that there was no atmosphere for holding a fair election. Now they are out to vitiate the atmosphere, he added.

The AL general secretary said BNP had organized ‘terrorists’ of the party along with leaders and workers at its Naya Paltan central office on the pretext of colleting nomination papers.

He said BNP carried out attacks on police without any provocation to foil the election.

“We want election. We have many responsibilities as we are the ruling party. We have to keep patience and tolerance,” he said.

Replying to a question, the AL general secretary said nobody was given assurance of getting nomination. He turned down the reports in this regard published in different media as baseless.
