DHAKA, Nov 18, 2018 (BSS) – Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport Minister Obaidul Quader today urged the Election Commission (EC) to look into whether convicted and fugitive BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman can take part in the election process or not.

“Tarique Rahman is a convicted criminal. He is now a fugitive and has taken political asylum in a country. Can he take part in the election process? I’m seeking attention of the Election Commission to this matter,” he said, speaking at a press conference at the conference room of his ministry here.

Quader said, “Tarique has been convicted for seven years in one case and got life in another case. Now he is living in a foreign country as a fugitive. How can he take part in polls process? I urge the concerned authority of the EC to look into the matter.”

Regarding the nomination of AL, the ruling party senior leader said the nomination of the party is at the final stage. The party has decided to give nominations as per the results of surveys.

Besides, he said, the lists of alliance candidates will be published soon. Discussions are going on with other political parties of the grand alliance, he added.

Quader said the names of the candidates of 14-party grand alliance will be declared in four to five days. Around 60-65 seats will be given to other parties of the alliance, he added.
