DHAKA, Nov 17, 2018 (BSS) – Election Commissioner (EC) Brigadier General Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury (Retd.) today warned the election officials that stern action would be taken if any allegations of biasness are raised against them during the upcoming national polls.

“Neutrality is very important for elections. You have to maintain your neutrality irrespective of party or political philosophy,” he said while addressing the inaugural function of a training programme for the polling officials at Electoral Training Institute (ETI) in the city’s Agargoan area.

ETI Director General Mustafa Faruq presided over the inaugural function.

Shahadat Chowdhury asked the election officials to perform their duties at the field levels appropriately as per the laws for holding a free, fair, credible and neutral election.

Mentioning that the 11th parliamentary election will be a participatory and competitive election, he instructed the election officials to ensure equal opportunity for all candidates to ensure a peaceful and participatory election.

“This election is very important . . . not only the countrymen but also the international community are closely looking at this election,” he added.

Asking the election officials to conduct the election successfully by receiving proper training, he said the Election Commission is committed to conducting a free, fair and acceptable election.

The 11th parliamentary election will be held on December 30. The authorities have fixed November 28 as the deadline for filing nomination papers, December 2 for scrutiny and December 9 last date of withdrawal.
