Nipun Roy, six others placed on remand over clash with police

DHAKA, Nov 16, 2018 (BSS) – A Dhaka court today placed BNP central
executive committee member Nipun Roy Chowdhury and six others on five-day
remand in a case lodged over clash with police in capital’s Naya Paltan area
on November 14.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Satyabrata Shikder passed the order as
investigation officer and Detective Branch Inspector Md Kamrul Islam produced
the accused before the court and pleaded to place them on 10-day remand.

Three cases were filed over Wednesday’s incidents, where two vehicles of
police were set ablaze and several others were damaged during a series of
clashes erupted between police and BNP activists in the city’s Naya Paltan.

The clashes took place at about 12.45 pm when BNP activists, without any
provocation, attacked policemen as they had tried to clear up the road to
ease traffic movement at Naya Paltan area, deputy commissioner (DC) of
Motijheel zone Anwar Hossain told reporters.

Nipun, who was very instrumental during the clashes, was picked up by law
enforcers yesterday evening from Nightingale intersection of Bijoynagar area.
