Maritime ports asked to continue hoisting signal 2

DHAKA, Nov 15, 2018 (BSS) – Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal number two as the cyclonic storm ‘GAJA’ lies over southwest bay and adjoining west central bay, intensifying into a severe Cyclonic storm over the adjoining areas.

“The cyclonic storm ‘GAJA’ has already moved away west-southwestwards, intensifying into a severe Cyclonic storm over southwest bay and adjoining areas,” said a met office warning message here today.

It was centered at 12 noon today about 1,620 km southwest of Chattogram port, 1,570 km southwest of Cox’s Bazar port, 1,495 km southwest of Mongla port and 1,500 km southwest of Payra port.

It is likely to move into west-southwesterly direction further and Cross Tamilnadu coast by midnight tonight (November 16), the release added.

Maximum sustained wind speed within 64 km of the severe cyclone Centre is about 89 kph rising to 117 kph in gusts or squalls. Sea will remain very rough near the severe cyclone centre.

All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice. They are also advised not to venture into the deep sea.
