DHAKA, Dec 27, 2017 (BSS) – President M Abdul Hamid urged all concerned to create more job opportunity for the graduates so they can utilize their latent talent for progress and prosperity of the nation.
“Bangladesh needs skilled and competent human resources to unlock the huge potentials . . . If we can educate our huge population and enhance their capacity, it would be a blessing for us,” he said while addressing the 4th convocation of Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) here yesterday afternoon.
The President also asked the new graduates to get involved in different activities along with doing jobs and go forward fostering the spirit of Liberation War and materialize the dream of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Noting that Bangladesh is yet to utilize its resources and facilities properly, Abdul Hamid said the young generation should keep in mind that all endeavours should aim at the nation’s progress as development of a country depends on the youth’s education.
“The government is implementing different programmes, including education and training, to build up the young generation as efficient human resources,” the President said.
Abdul Hamid, also the chancellor of the universities, underscored the need for science education together with the humanities and business studies from primary to higher studies.
In this regard, the President mentioned the perspective of the “Vision-2021” designed by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to build a “Digital Bangladesh”.
“The 21st century threw various challenges to us both in national and international arenas. There is no alternative to making our young generation skilled with knowledge in science and information technology to survive the global competition,” he added.
President Hamid hoped that the university would impart technology-based education to the students to cope with demand of time.
Congratulating the new graduates of BUP, the President asked the degree-holders to work for building a hunger and poverty-free, happy, prosperous and dignified Bangladesh.
President Hamid also thanked the university authorities for establishing a “Bangabandhu Chair” here, hoping, “This initiative will help our new generation to enrich their spirit by knowing Bangabandhu, his works, struggle for freedom and the War of Liberation”.
President Hamid later inaugurated the “Bangabandhu Chair” in the university and also visited its different faculties.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman and also convocation speaker Prof Abdul Mannan, chiefs of three services, BUP Vice-Chancellor Maj Gen M Salahuddin Miaji also spoke on the occasion.
Run by the armed forces, the BUP was established in 2008. A total of 22 students got gold medals for their outstanding performance this year.
