DHAKA, Dec 26, 2017 (BSS) – Two examinations of Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations are likely to be deferred till March 2018 for election to the mayoral post of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).

“The SSC and equivalent examinations scheduled to be held on February 24 and 25 will be held in March,” Helaluddin Ahmad, acting secretary of the Election Commission (EC) Secretariat, told journalists after a meeting with high officials of education boards at Nirbachan Bhaban in the city’s Agargaon area.

Dhaka education board, madrasah and technical board officials joined the meeting.

Helaluddin said board officials have agreed to defer the SSC and equivalent examinations of February 24 and 25 responding to the EC’s request as the EC has planned to hold elections to the DNCC mayoral post and commissioner posts in different newly added wards of DNCC and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) by the ending week of February.

The schedule of the polls will be declared by the second week of January, he added.

Earlier, Local Government Division published a gazette notification adding 36 new wards to the DNCC and DSCC and sent it to EC on August 20 for holding elections in those wards.
