RAJSHAHI, Nov 12, 2018 (BSS)- Rajshahi University (RU) has adopted a Taka
3,000-crore mega plan for making its teaching, learning and research
activities more effective through substantial and sustainable infrastructural
development.

RU Pro-vice-chancellor Prof Chowdhury Muhammad Jakaria told journalists
that the 50-year plan has been adopted for overall development of education
and infrastructures. This is the ever biggest development programme in the
university’s history after the country’s independence.

At present, implementation work of Taka 364 crore given by Prime Minister
Sheikh Hasina in 2016 is progressing. Work of Taka 125 crore has been started
and work of the rest allocated money will start in next year.

Of those, construction works of a 20-storied academic building, two ten-
storied residential buildings and a dormitory are expected to be completed by
next March/April.

A 10-storey administrative building will also be set up to accelerate the
university’s academic and administrative activities.

President M Abdul Hamid has unveiled the foundation stones of two new
halls when he attended the RU’s 10th convocation ceremony in last September.
RU will construct the two new modern ten-storied dormitories for the
students’, to remove the existing accommodation crises.

Prof Chowdhury Jakaria said one of the dormitories for female students
will be named ‘Sheikh Hasina Hall’ while the other as ‘AHM Kamaruzzaman Hall’
for male students.

Besides, building a boundary wall around the campus, construction of a
footbridge at the main gate and drainage projects have been incorporated into
the mega plan.

In addition, modification of the building for Sheikh Rasel Model School,
fourth science building, fourth arts building, Motihar hall and remaining
works of Agriculture faculty building will be completed in future.

RU will also establish a park, cultural centre for Music and Theater
department, construct a modern drainage system and cafeteria and widen the
internal streets of the campus.

Prof Chowdhury said they have chalked out the plan to develop everything
systematically on the campus. “Our main goal is to digitize every process in
the university in a transparent manner, starting from admission to
recruitment,” he added.

Upon successful implementation of the projects, the campus will get a new
look, he opined.
