Tigers’ reign first day as Mominul, Mushfiqur hits ton in 2nd Test

DHAKA, Nov 11, 2018(BSS)- Mominul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim scored a magnificent ton saw Bangladesh reigned the first day scoring 303 for 5 at stumps against visiting Zimbabwe in the second and final Test held at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium at Mirpur in the city today.

Opted to bat first after winning the toss, Bangladesh plunged into deep trouble as they lost their three top orders batsman early in the innings. It was a difficult session for the Tigers as Zimbabwe bowled with fire, maintaining good line and length. The wicket provided good carry and movement.

Kyle Jarvis launched early inroad on Bangladesh innings removing both the Bangladesh openers. He first sent back to opener Imrul Kays who backed to the pavilion without disturbing the score board.

Liton Das also lasted a little as he failed to keep the ball on the ground, driving the ball in the air, straight to the man to become Jarvis’s second victim.

Debutant Mohammad Mithun also failed to open his account as he perished to Donald Tiripano leaving Bangladesh in deep trouble.

In this crucial stage, Bangladesh desperately needed a big partnership to o repair their early damage and both Mominul and Mushfiq concentrated to rebuild the dilapidated Bangladesh’s innings. The left-hander Mominul made the most of drop catch on nine dispatched a Sikandar Raza full-toss to the mid-wicket boundary in the 55th over to complete his seventh Test ton in style.

Mushfiqur Rahim and Mominul Haque, two of Tigers’ regular performers also shared a massive 266-run fourth wickets stand to take the team’s to a commanding position before Tendai Chatara finally broke the stubborn partnership dismissing Mominul, who’s heroic innings ended at161 off 247-ball that furnished with 19 boundaries.

The Zimbabwe bowlers however fought back in the final session of the day picking up two wickets of Mominul Haque and Taijul Islam. Despite picking up two wickets late on the day, Bangladesh were the clear winners of the last two sessions courtesy of Mominul Haque’s 161 and Mushfiqur Rahman’s unbeaten 111.

Mushfiqur Rahim, who provided an ample support to Mominul during the process of 266-run stand, also completed his sixth Test century. He contributed 111 runs off 231-balls laced with nine boundaries to remain unbeaten along with skipper Mahmudullah 4 as the bails were drawn for the day.

Kyle Jarvis was the pick of Zimbabwe bowler as he claimed three wickets conceding 48 runs. He was well supported by Tendai Chatara and Donald Tiripano who both shared one wicket giving away 28 and 33 runs respectively.
