ROs asked not to cancel nomination papers for silly mistakes

DHAKA, Nov 10, 2018 (BSS)- The Election Commission (EC) has asked the returning officers (ROs) not to cancel nomination papers of aspiring candidates for the 11th parliamentary election for silly mistakes.

“If any mistakes are found during the scrutiny and those can be corrected immediately, get those corrected by the aspirants, the EC said in a circular today.

It said the nomination papers would not be canceled for silly mistakes.

The circular also said that if the recruiting officer finds one nomination paper of a person valid, there will be no need to scrutinize his other papers.

The EC also said one would be required to pay telephone, electricity, gas, water and other government bills by November 12 to file nomination paper.

Besides, an aspirant who defaulted on a bank loan (not small agriculture loan) is not eligible to be a candidate.

The election will be held on December 23. As per the schedule, the last date of submission of nomination papers is November 19, scrutiny will be held on November 22 and the last date of withdrawal of nomination paper is November 29. Election symbol will be allocated on November 30.
