RCC distributes dustbins as part cleanliness campaign

RAJSHAHI, Nov 9, 2018 (BSS) – Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) has
started distributing dustbins among the businessmen as part of its
cleanliness campaign.

RCC Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton distributed 10 dustbins among
businessmen at Shaheb Bazar area and took part in the cleanliness drive there
yesterday to motivate and inspire the businessmen and others concerned
towards keeping their surroundings neat and clean.

In phases, the mayor will distribute 12,000 dustbins among the
businessmen so that they can keep their respective places clean.

RCC Panel Mayors Shariful Islam Babu, Rajab Ali and Tahera Begum, Editor
of Daily Sonali Sangbad Liakat Ali, President of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce
and Industry Md Muniruzzaman and President of RDA Market Businessmen
Association Farid Mamud Hassan were present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Liton said sound health is the most
important wealth and urged all the city dwellers including the traders and
businessmen to maintain cleanliness to improve environment and reduce the
extent of diseases aiming to build a healthy and prosperous nation.

He said “Our environment is a testimony to the state of our mentality.
We indiscriminately pollute our environment. RCC’s cleanliness effort is not
enough. United way we have to make efforts to change our habit. We have to
clean and also stop throwing garbage to protect our environment”.

He highlighted the importance of maintaining cleanliness at office
premises, institutions, homesteads and open and market places in the city
since cleanliness is a must to keep air fresh and improve environment.

In the absence of adequate awareness programmes and coordinated waste
management policy, people dump wastes and make streets and public places
dirty, Liton said.
