DHAKA, Nov 07, 2018 (BSS) – Ambassadors of six countries and high commissioners of two countries to Bangladesh separately presented their respective credentials to President M Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban here this afternoon.
Out of eight, two resident ambassadors are: Winnie Estrup Petersen of Denmark and Mohammad Reza Nafar of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The six others non-resident envoys are: Britgitte Oppinger-Walchshofer (based in New Delhi) of Austria, Ivan Lancaric of Slovak Republic, Dinah Grace Alkello of Uganda, Adam Burakowshi of Poland (residence in New Delhi), and high commissioners – Michael Aaron Nii Nortey Oquaye Jnr of Ghana and Barlybay Sadykov of Kazakhstan.
Welcoming the envoys to Bangladesh, the President said the Dhaka’s foreign policy attaches importance to bilateral and friendly relations with all, President’s Press Secretary Joynal Abedin told BSS after the ceremony.
Bangladesh always gives priority to the expansion of bilateral relations in the fields of trade and investment, the President said, hoping that the bilateral ties with these countries will further be expanded during their stay here.
Terming Bangladesh a country of huge potentials, Abdul Hamid urged the envoys to avail all possibilities to boost business and trade ties between Bangladesh and respective countries.
Referring to tremendous development in health, education and women empowerment areas, President Abdul Hamid said that Bangladesh has already been credited with the “Role Model of Development” worldwide.
He highly appreciated cooperation and assistance lent by those countries on bilateral plane making a special mention to Denmark for its participation in various socio-cultural development activities in Bangladesh.
He said Bangladesh is keen to build a strategic partnership with Denmark in various fields, including environment, climate change and energy.
The Danish envoy expressed her eagerness to invest here in shipbuilding industry and renewable energy sector.
Turning to Iranian ambassador, the President recalled existing excellent relations between Bangladesh and Iran and said both the countries required to avail huge potentials in commerce, investment and tourism sectors.
He went on saying that the business leaders of both the countries should play vital roles to utilize huge potential to the benefits of peoples of the two countries.
Praising the socio-economic development of Bangladesh, the envoys sought cooperation of the Bangladesh government in discharging their respective duties.
Secretaries concerned to the President and high officials of the Foreign Ministry were present.
Earlier, on their arrivals at Bangabhaban, a smartly turned-out contingent of the horse-mounted President Guard Regiment (PGR) gave the envoys guards of honour as part of the ceremony.
