DHAKA, Nov 7, 2018 (BSS) – Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Fazle Kabir today said the country’s banking sector is ready for the arrival of the new era which will be unstoppable wave of innovation and technology.

“Our banking sector, I am pleased to note, is indeed more than ready for the arrival of this new era, a new era marked by the unstoppable wave of innovation and technology,” he said, speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural session of the ‘Annual Banking Conference-2018’ in the city.

The Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) organised the two-day conference aiming at bringing together experts, academicians and researchers from all over the world to exchange and share knowledge, experience and research outputs on banking and related issues.

Fazle Kabir, also BIBM Governing Body chairman, said technology has given rise to a more competitive yet more vibrant market, boosting product offerings and business performance of banks. “If we are to stay ahead of the game, we must fully harness the potential of innovation and technology,” he added.

To this end, Kabir said, the government as well as the central bank is undertaking nationwide initiatives to create a smart society.

“Turning to our banking industry, technology is no doubt a critical game changer. Not long ago, the idea of doing your banking on a computer, or a pocket-sized mobile phone, would have seemed the stuff of science fiction,” he added.

He said “We are seeing new modes of service delivery, enhanced consumer experience, greater operational efficiency, and improved financial inclusion.”

The inaugural function was followed by four plenary sessions where 22 articles were presented.
