Around 18,000 farmers getting incentives in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Nov 7, 2018 (BSS) – Distribution of special agriculture incentives in terms of seed and fertilisers worth over Taka 2.09 crore continues among 17,935 small and marginal farmers of Rajshahi district.

The government through the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) is distributing the incentives to assist the small and marginal farmers in cultivating eight varieties of crops during the 2018-2019 Rabi and Kharip-1 seasons.

District Training Officer of the DAE Momjurul Haque said distribution of the incentives for wheat, maize, mustard, groundnut and BT brinjal crops continues now while the farmers will get the same for summer ‘Tiil’ and mungbean later.

He said 3,500 farmers will get the incentives for wheat farming, 4,200 farmers for maize farming, 6,500 farmers for mustard farming, 700 farmers for oilseed, 3,000 farmers for mugbean and 35 farmers for BT brinjal farming.

“Each of the beneficiary farmers will get one to 20-kg seed of different crops, 10 to 20-kg Di-ammonium Phosphate (DAP) and five to 10-kg Muriate of Potash (MoP) fertilisers free of costs to cultivate crops on one bigha of land,” he added.

Agriculturist Monjurul said the government is distributing the special agriculture incentives among the small and marginal farmers to assist them in cultivating various crops during the Rabi and Kharip-1 seasons.

Meanwhile, 1,065 small and marginalized farmers received the seed and fertilizer incentives worth around Taka 13 lakh at a function at Paba Upazila Parishad auditorium in the district yesterday.

Deputy Commissioner SM Abdul Kader distributed the incentives as chief guest with Upazila Nirbahi Officer Jahid Newaj in the chair.
