Bumper Aman production expected in Khulna

KHULNA, Nov 5, 2018 (BSS) – Farmers are expecting to have a bumper Aman paddy production in the district this season.

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said they are expecting a record yield of Aman due to favourable weather, availability of fertilizer and insecticides.

The sources said, farmers have successfully cultivated Aman paddy on 92,425 hectares of land exceeding the target.

The DAE set a target to bring 90,192 hectares of land for Aman cultivation with a production target of 2, 64,417 metric tons of rice.

A total of 67,312 hectares of land were brought under upashy paddy variety cultivation with a production target of 2,22,953 metric tons while 22,880 hectares were brought under local paddy cultivation with a production target 41,464.

But, the agronomists hoped that the yield would be over 3 lakh metric tons.

Harvesting of this paddy will begin in this month, DAE officials said.
