DHAKA, Nov 04, 2018 (BSS)- Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda is set to declare the schedule for the 11th parliamentary elections on November 8.

“The CEC will announce the schedule for the forthcoming parliamentary elections and address to the nation on the day,” Election Commissioner Brigadier General (retd) Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury told reporters at a press conference at the Nirbachan Bhaban in city’s Agargaon this evening.

He said, “We decided to declare the polls schedule on November 8 and the polls will be held 45 days after the declaration of the schedule.”

EC Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed and Joint Secretary SM Asaduzzaman were present in the press conference.

Earlier, the CEC held a meeting with commissioners at the commission office to fix the date to announce the schedule for the next parliamentary polls this afternoon.

Besides, another meeting of the Election Commission was held this morning with Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda in the chair.

EC joint secretary SM Asaduzzaman said the commission finalised the draft rules for using Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) in the general election.

He said the EC formulated the draft rules in line with the recent amendment to the Representation of the People Order (Amendment) 1972 which incorporated a provision to pave the way for using EVM in the general election.

The EC will now send the draft rules to the Law Ministry for vetting before publishing a gazette notification over the rules, said the official.
