Ex-information minister Tariqul Islam passes away

DHAKA, Nov 4, 2018 (BSS) – Former Information Minister and BNP Standing Committee Member Tariqul Islam passed away at a city hospital this afternoon.

He was 72, Tariqul’s son Anindya Islam Amit told newsmen.

Tariqul is survived by his wife, two sons and a host of relatives, well-wishers and political admirers.

He had been suffering from different complications, including kidney, diabetic and high blood pressure, for long.

The BNP leader was admitted to Apollo Hospitals on October 14 and kept on Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital until his death.

The first namaz-e-janaza of Tariqul will be held in front of BNP’s Nayapaltan central office at 10 am, the second namaz-e-janaza at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban at 11.15 am tomorrow.

Later, the body will be taken to his Jashore residence, and following his third namaz-e-janaza at Jashore Eidgah after Asr prayers, he will be buried at his family graveyard there.

Tariqul Islam was born on November 16 in 1946 in Jashore sadar.

In 1969, he completed his graduation and post-graduation from Rajshahi University in Economics.

Tariqul Islam was elected as member of parliament four times from his constituency in Jashore and served as the minister for information, environment and forests, social welfare and post and telecommunications.

In a message of condolence today, Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu expressed profound shock at the death of Tariqul Islam.

He also prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family.
