NBR to be paperless institution: Azad

DHAKA, Nov 4, 2018 (BSS) – Principal Coordinator (SDG Affairs) of the
Prime Minister’s Office Md Abul Kalam Azad today said the National Board of
Revenue (NBR) would be made a paperless one soon by ensuring digital
services.

“It is quite impossible to make the country’s economic sector free from
corruption without making the sector digitalised,” he said while addressing
the inaugural session of a daylong fair titled ‘Innovation Showcasing’ at
Diploma Engineers’ Institution here.

The NBR arranged the fair to make 11 digital systems, recently launched
to ease the tax services, familiar to the government officials and taxpayers.

Of the innovative systems exhibited in the fair, five belong to Income
Tax Division, three to Customs Division and two to Value Added Tax (VAT)
Division of the NBR while the remaining one belongs to the National Savings
Department.

Bangladesh Economic Association General Secretary Dr Jamal Uddin also
spoke on the occasion with NBR Chairman Md Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan in the
chair.

Azad said it will be possible to make the other government offices
paperless, if the NBR, as a lone largest service delivery institution, could
be made paperless.

He urged the NBR to bring the newly launched 11 digital innovations under
a single umbrella and other offices under digital services.

Jamal Uddin hoped that revenue income would be increased by two to three
times, if the revenue could be realised through digital systems.

NBR Member (Income Tax) and Chief Innovative Officer Kanan Kumar Ray
presented different aspects of the newly innovated digital systems.
