Rangpur court rejects Mainul’s bail prayer

RANGPUR, Nov 04, 2018 (BSS) – A Rangpur court today rejected bail prayer of Barrister Mainul Hossain in a defamation case filed against him on October 22 last for his defamatory remarks against journalist Masuda Bhatti.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate of the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court of Rangpur Arifa Yasmin Mukta rejected the bail prayer after hearing this noon and ordered to send him to the jail hajat.

“The court has also fixed the next date for hearing on the case on November 22 next,” Public Prosecutor of Rangpur Advocate Abdul Malek told reporters after hearing on the bail petition on the court premises.

Earlier, Barrister Mainul Hossain was taken to the court amid tight security measures this noon.

Advocate Sayem Sarkar, lawyer of Barrister Mainul Hossain, told reporters that he pleaded before the court for granting bail of his client on the ground of his bad health condition.

Earlier on October 22, local human rights activist Mili Maya Begum filed a defamation case with the court here against Barrister Mainul Hossain for making defamatory remarks on a TV talk show on October 16 against journalist Masuda Bhatti.

Barrister Mainul Hossain was arrested by the Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police from a house in Uttara area of the capital city on the same day at night.

He (Mainul Hossain) was brought to Rangpur Central Jail amid tight security measures on Saturday afternoon for producing him before the court of the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate of Rangpur today.
