DHAKA, Nov 3, 2018 (BSS) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today congratulated Jair Messias Bolsonaro on his election as the president of Brazil.

“It’s my great pleasure to congratulate you, and through you the friendly people of Brazil, on your election as the President of the Federative Republic of Brazil. Your election came as a reflection of the trust and confidence that the people of Brazil repose on your dynamic leadership in securing Brazil’s rightful place in the world,” she said in a message to Bolsonaro.

The premier said Bangladesh, a long-standing friend of Brazil, enjoys its close ties with the South American country.

“I hope that with your able guidance, the two countries’ partnership in the days ahead would reach a higher trajectory in a multisectoral context, including in vital and prospective areas such as trade, defence cooperation, agricultural cooperation, health, education, sports,” she said.

Sheikh Hasina said Bangladesh has lately decided to explore the possibility of concluding a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the Mercosur group of countries for realising the trade potentials between Bangladesh and Mercosur in general, and with Brazil in particular.

The prime minister said Bangladesh has been making a commendable stride in realising an inclusive socioeconomic development of its people.

“My government has invested heavily in education, health, women empowerment, ICT, and so on-transforming Bangladesh from a Least Developed Country (LDC) to a developing one,” she said.

Sheikh Hasina invited the Brazilian president to visit Bangladesh at his earliest convenience and wished him peace and good health, and continued prosperity of the people of Brazil.
