NBR holds fair on 11 digital innovations tomorrow

DHAKA, Nov 3, 2018 (BSS) – Internal Resources Division (IRD) and the National Board of Revenue (NBR) have launched 11 digital innovative systems to ease the tax services to the taxpayers.

Of the innovative systems, five belong to Income Tax Division, three to Customs Division and two to Value Added Tax (VAT) Division of the NBR while the remaining one belongs to the National Savings Department.

A daylong fair on the digital systems will be held tomorrow at Diploma Engineers’ Institution in the city to make the government officials and taxpayers familiar with the innovations, IRD Senior Secretary and NBR Chairman Md Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan told BSS today.

Most of the government services and back-office activities are being provided and implemented by using digital platforms as per the ‘Vision-2021’, he said, adding, “So, the NBR has started implementing the innovative systems to make the tax services easy, cost-effective and time-befitting for the taxpayers”.

The NBR chairman hoped that from the exhibition, the digital systems will get acceptance and the taxpayers will be benefited.

The five digital systems of the Income Tax Division include Back Search tools, Audit Management System Software, Advance Tax Reminder Tools, Demand and Collection Tools and Income Tax Return Procession through excel sheet while three systems of the Customs Division include BenaPass Software, e-payment for realizing duties on imported and exported goods and Electronic Export General Manifest.

The innovative systems of the VAT Division include two mobile apps named ‘LTU-VAT’ and ‘East-VAT’ while National Savings Department launches ‘e-Savings Software’.

NBR Member (Income Tax) and Chief Innovative Officer Kanan Kumar Ray said the taxpayers now can submit their returns by using the apps or digital platforms that saves their time and money.

Talking about mobile app ‘VAT-East’, Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate, Dhaka (East) Md Zakir Hossain said people can check their Business Identification Number (BIN) using the apps and lodge any complaint against the VAT officials without any charge.

It has reduced the physical contact of a taxpayer with VAT offices that actually reduces the cost of taxpayers, he added.
