Bangla Academy stages traditional “Poush Mela”

DHAKA, Dec 21, 2017 (BSS) – A three-day “Poush Mela,” welcoming the winter season, will begin on the Bangla Academy premises in the city tomorrow.

Poush Mela Udjapon Parishad (PMUP) is organizing the Mela (fair) with the assistance of Bangla Academy that will end on December 24 (Sunday), said Biswajit Roy, general secretary of the PMUP.

Around 50 to 60 stalls will be set up in the fair. The stalls will mainly display traditional winter cakes and artifacts to attract the city dwellers.

Different events, including cultural function, will be held during the fair from 8 am to 10 am and 4 pm to 9 pm at the Nazrul Mancha on the Academy premises.

Veteran journalist Kamal Lohani, who played a crucial role as a broadcaster of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendro in 1971, will inaugurate the “Poush Mela” as the chief guest with cultural personality Golam Kuddus in the chair.
