Experts for promoting food safety in poultry sector

RANGPUR, Nov 01, 2018 (BSS) – Livestock experts at a workshop have stressed
promoting food safety governance in the poultry sector to produce healthier
poultry birds for meeting nutrition of the population.

They put importance on ensuring a strict monitoring system and providing
training and technology to poultry farm owners and the common people for
accelerating a hygienic growth of the poultry sector.

The experts were addressing the workshop on ‘Supporting Government
Monitoring System in Poultry Sector’ held in the Public Library conference
room here on Wednesday.

Rangpur Sadar unit of Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) under its
Issue-based Project on Food Safety Governance in Poultry Sector organised the
event with the assistance of the Department of Livestock Services and other
organisations.

Government and NGO officials, poultry farm owners, poultry feed suppliers,
poultry medicine traders, representatives of poultry medicine producers,
poultry traders and civil society members participated.

District Livestock Officer Dr Mahbubul Alam attended the workshop as the
chief guest with president of Rangpur district unit of CAB Abdur Rahman in
the chair.

Poultry Development Officer of the Government Poultry Farm, Rangpur Fazlul
Karim and Sadar Upazila Livestock Officer Dr Md Sarwar Hossain delivered
presentations as resource persons.

General secretary of Rangpur district unit of CAB Ahsanul Haque Tuhin
delivered the welcome speech.

The resource persons discussed technologies for proper rearing and feeding
of poultry birds, supplying poultry medicines and poultry feeds, combating
diseases, vaccination, caring eggs during breeding of chicks and marketing of
poultry products.

Dr Sarwar Hossain said chicken eggs and meat are being produced in the
district by adopting latest scientific technologies and maintaining maximum
safety for human health to meet nutritional demand of the population.

Dr Mahbubul Alam said private sector poultry farms are producing 12 crore
pieces of chicken eggs every year in Rangpur district with 30.10 lakh
population having an annual demand of only 3.22 crore pieces of eggs.

He called upon all stakeholders concerned for strictly following the
business regulations side by side with ensuring a proper monitoring system to
promote safe food governance in the poultry sector.
