Biswa Ijtema to begin Jan 12

DHAKA, Dec 20, 2017 (BSS) – Bishwa Ijtema, the second largest congregation of the world’s Muslims, is scheduled to be held in two phases on the bank of the river Turag, on the outskirt of the capital Dhaka, from January 12-14 and January 19-21.

The overall preparation for the three-day Biswa Ijtema has already begun at the bank of River Turag at Tongi in the capital.

The first phase of the Biswa Ijtema will end with the Akheri Munajat on January 15.

As part of the preparation, several hundred people including youths, teachers and students are participating in various development works at the ijtema ground.

The development works include – construction of makeshift toilets and bathrooms, supplying electricity, gas and water lines, ensuring accommodation facilities for foreign guests.

“All sorts of development activities have already begun and it is going on in full swing….we are hopeful that the works would be completed within a week,” said Gias Uddin, member of the Ijtema Organizing Committee.

Devotees from thirty-two districts will participate in the two phase Ijtema in 2018.

The 32 districts are – Dhaka, Sherpur, Narayanganj, Nilphamari, Sirajganj, Natore, Gaibandha, Lakhipur, Sylhet, Chittagong, Narail, Madaripur, Bhola, Magura, Patuakhali, Jhalokati, Panchagarh, Jhenaidah, Jamalpur, Faridpur, Netrokona, Narshingdi, Comilla, Kurigram, Rajshahi, Feni, Thakurgaon, Sunamganj, Bogra, Khulna, Chuadanga and Pirojpur.

Around 30-40 lakh people from home and abroad are expected to participate in the Ijtema.
