Mobile banking in emergency activities lauded

LALMONIRAHT, Dec 20, 2017 (BSS) – Officials at a workshop here lauded the
mobile banking services to ensure well-coordinated emergency response
activities for the flood-affected people of the district during the last
floods.

The observation came at the ‘Experience Sharing and Lessons Learned
Workshop’ jointly organised by the district administration and RDRS
Bangladesh at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner here yesterday,
a press release said.

The workshop was arranged to share experiences of the distribution of Taka
12,000 each among 999 flood-hit families of seven unions under three upazilas
using mobile banking services.

The World Food Programme (WFP) distributed the money through RDRS
Bangladesh using mobile banking services under the ‘WFP Assisted Emergency
Food Security Cash Assistance for the Most Vulnerable Flood Affected
Households under DFAT Funding’ to stand by the flood-hit families.

Under the programme, each of the beneficiary families got Taka 12,000 in
three phases with Taka 4,000 in each phase by second week of this month.

Head of Rangpur Sub Office of the WFP Mamtaz Begum attended the workshop as
the chief guest with Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Rezaul Alam
Sarker in the chair.

Programme Manager (Field Coordination) of RDRS Bangladesh Maidul Islam
delivered PowerPoint presentation narrating emergency cash assistance
activities implemented using mobile banking services to ensure food security
of the flood-hit families.

Project Officer of WFP Mamtaz Begum, District Training officer of the
Department of Agriculture Extension Dr Sarwarul Alam, Acting District Relief
and Rehabilitation Officer Mamtaz Begum, Sadar Upazila Chairman Mominul Haque
and union chairmen Asraf Ali, Monwar Hossain Dulu and Shafikul Islam
addressed the programme, among others.

The chief guest highly appreciated the ‘Mobile Bank Cash Transfer’
technologies for quickly transferring financial assistance among disaster
affected people.
