JS passes Bangladesh Rehabilitation Council Bill, 2018

SANGSAD BHABAN, Oct 29, 2018 (BSS) – Bangladesh Rehabilitation Council Bill, 2018 was passed in the Jatiya Sangsad with a view to developing the rehabilitation services for the patients who are suffering various forms of neurological disorder and recognizing rehabilitation professionals and restoring its quality control.

According to the object of the bill, country’s estimated 10 per cent people of the total population are being suffered from any form of neurological disorder.

Social Welfare Minister Rashed Khan Menon today moved the bill which was unanimously passed by voice votes with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.

Placing the bill, the Social Welfare Minister said the proposed bill will ensure the development of establishment of quality rehabilitation professionals and the health care services.

At the same time, the minister said the professionals of nurses and pharmacists have professional recognition and a legal authority for improving its quality but the rehabilitation professionals like Physiotherapists, Speech Therapists, Occupational Therapists, psychologists, Nutritionists, Special Educators have no professional recognition and legal authority.

Earlier, the draft of the Bangladesh Rehabilitation Council Bill, 2018 was placed in the parliament and then sent to the parliamentary standing committee on October 25 for providing report after further scrutinizing of the bill.
