Key facts of Israel’s municipal elections

JERUSALEM, Oct 28, 2018 (BSS/AFP) – On October 30 Israel holds elections
for city, town and rural district governments. Here are key facts and
figures.

– Polls open at 7:00 am (0500 GMT) and close at 10:00 pm.

– Previous local elections were held in October 2013.

– In mayoral contests where no candidate wins at least 40 percent of the
vote, a second-round runoff will take place on November 13.

– Eligible voters: 6.6 million residents aged 17 or over. Unlike general
elections, where only citizens have the vote, permanent residents —
including Druze in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights and Palestinians in
annexed east Jerusalem — can also take part.

– For the first time since the Golan was occupied in 1967, Druze residents
in four villages will vote for their local representatives.
