Forging social resistance against food adulteration stressed

RAJSHAHI, Oct 25, 2018 (BSS)- Experts and development activists at a
workshop in Rajshahi unequivocally called for forging social resistance
against food adulteration for the greater interest of consumers right
protection.

They viewed that if people come forward and work together for raising voice
against food adulteration, none can dare to commit such crimes.

Besides, proper enforcement of the Consumers’ Rights Protection (CRP) Law
could be the vital means of protecting the consumers’ rights, freeing people
from getting affected by food poisoning and other contamination.

The observation came at the daylong “consultation workshop of consumers
committee: support to government authorities for food safety in poultry
sector” at Green Garden Training Centre in Paba Upazila today.

Paba unit of Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) and Issue-based
Project on Food Safety Governance in Poultry Sector jointly organized the
workshop in association with UKaid and British Council.

Deputy Director of Department of Environment Mamunur Rashid and District
Livestock Officer Dr Zulfikar Akhter Hossain addressed the workshop as chief
and special guests respectively with Upazila Nirbahi Officer Zahid Newaj in
the chair.

CAB District Secretary Golam Mostofa, Upazila President Kazi Nazmul Islam,
valiant freedom fighters Ashraf Ali Dewan, SM Kamruzzaman and Jahidur Rahman
and CAB Project Field Coordinator Omor D Costa and its field officers Mohidul
Islam and Mozammel Haque also spoke.

The speakers underscored the need for promoting food safety governance in
poultry sector to protect public health from any poultry-related diseases.
They opined that collective efforts of all public and private entities
concerned can be the effective means of ensuring poultry feed safety coupled
with good poultry farming practice.

Mamunur Rahman told the meeting that measures should be taken to bring all
the poultry farmers, traders, feed manufactures, sellers and others concerned
under necessary training to enhance their knowledge in this field.

Dr Zulfikar Akhter Hossain said steps have also been taken to bring all
the stakeholders under registration aimed at ensuring safe and good poultry
farming practices.

All quarters like farmers, hatchery owners, poultry bird sellers, feed meal
manufacturers and sellers and the field level officers and staffs should work
together to this end, he said.
