62,244 villages fully, 14,647 partly get power: Nasrul

SANGSAD BHABAN, Oct 25, 2018 (BSS) -State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid today said 62,244 villages fully and 14,647 villages partly out of 83,819 villages were brought under electricity coverage under Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) jurisdiction across the country.

“The government has been implementing 15 projects with construction of 84,000 kilometer distribution lines to bring 6,928 villages under full electric coverage and 14,647 villages having power facility partly,” he said this, while replying to a starred question from treasury bench member Didarul Alam of Chattagram-4 in the Jatiya Sangsad.

The state minister said that the present government after taking charge, has undertaken short, midterm and long term plan to improve power sector instantly, adding, “The government has undertaken plans to improve power distribution management including ensuring required fund in the power sector under annual development programme, ensuring 100 percent progress in annual development programme, using alternative fund along with modern and new innovation financing in the power sector.”

Moreover, the government’s plan to implement programmes of solar home system and solar mini grid in the off grid areas and introduce ICT service alongside installation of pre-paid meters aimed at ensuring client service, he said.

“Under the plan, the government would increase capacity of transmission and distribution lines to 21,000 circuit kilometers and 4,70,000 kilometers by 2021,” Nasrul informed the House.
