90,440 farmers getting Tk 12.15 cr incentives in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Oct 25, 2018 (BSS) – Distribution of special agriculture incentives in terms of seed and fertilisers worth over Taka 12.15 crore continues among 90,440 small and marginal farmers of Rangpur agriculture region.

The government through the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) is distributing the incentives to assist the small and marginal farmers in cultivating eight varieties of crops during the 2018-2019 Rabi and Kharip-1 seasons.

Deputy Director of the DAE at its regional office Md Moniruzzaman said distribution of the incentives for wheat, maize, mustard, groundnut, BT brinjal and Boro crops continues now while the farmers will get the same for summer ‘Tiil’ and mungbean later.

“Each of the beneficiary farmers will get one to 20-kg seed of different crops, 10 to 20-kg Di-ammonium Phosphate (DAP) and five to 10-kg Muriate of Potash (MoP) fertilisers free of costs to cultivate crops on one bigha of land,” he said.

The incentives will assist 19,415 small and marginal farmers of Rangpur, 18,230 of Gaibandha, 19,925 of Kurigram, 15,425 of Lalmonirhat and 17,445 farmers of Nilphamari districts under Rangpur agriculture region.

Horticulture Specialist of the DAE at its regional office Khondoker Md Mesbahul Islam said the government allocated 607.40 tonnes of seed, 1,757.80 tonnes of DAP and 878.90 tonnes of MoP fertilisers this time for distribution among the farmers in the region.

Under the programme, 470 tonnes of wheat seed, 82.40 tonnes of maize, 18.50 tonnes of mustard, six tonnes of groundnut, 500 kg of ‘Tiil’, 22.50 tonnes of mungbean, 2.80 kg of BT brinjal and 7.50 tonnes of Boor rice seed will be distributed.

“After getting the special agri-incentives, 23,500 small and marginal farmers will cultivate wheat on 23,500 bighas of land, 41,200 farmers maize on 41,200 bighas and 18,500 will cultivate mustard on 18,500 bighas of land,” Islam said.

Besides, 600 farmers will cultivate groundnut on 600 bighas of land, 500 farmers ‘Tiil’ on 500 bighas, 4,500 farmers mungbean on 4,500 bighas, 140 farmers BT brinjal on 140 bighas and 1,500 farmers will cultivate Boro rice on 1,500 bighas of land.

Regional Additional Director of the DAE Md Shah Alam said the government is distributing the special agriculture incentives among the small and marginal farmers to assist them in cultivating various crops during the Rabi and Kharip-1 seasons.

“Distribution of the special agriculture incentives already completed among 9,160 famers by Wednesday and many of started farming most of the crops on their lands side by side with taking preparation to cultivate wheat and maize,” Alam said.
