Nine Ctg stampede victims cremated without autopsies

CHITTAGONG, Dec 19, 2017 (BSS) – Nine out of the ten victims of a stampede,
during qulkhwani of the late former mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury, have been
cremated without post-mortem today.

The cremations were performed without autopsies after taking permission
from the local administration, said Ward Councilor Jaharlal Hazri, who was in
charge of the bodies.

Three victims were cremated at Baluardighi temple early Monday. The other
six bodies were sent to their respective village homes in Banshkhali upazila,
Kattali area in the city, Sitakunda upazila, Anowara upazila, Chokria upazila
of Cox’s Bazar district and Rangamati hill district. The six bodies were
cremated before Tuesday afternoon, confirmed Jaharlal Hazri.

Another body was sent to Rangpur district for the funeral, however news of
cremation was not confirmed till filing of this report, said Jaharlal Hazari.

Awami League leaders including Mohiuddin Chowdhury’s sons, AL Organising
Secretary Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury Nowfel and his younger brother Borhanul
Hasan Chowdhury Salehin attended the cremations at Baluadighi temple.

Meanwhile, an unnatural death (UD) case was filed in connection with the
death of 10 people in a stampede during the qulkhwani.

Arun Das, elder brother of a victim Jhantu Das, filed the unnatural death
case with Chawkbazar thana on Monday night, said Nurul Husa, officer-in-
charge of Chawkbazar thana police.

On the other hand, local administration suspended all activities of the
Rima Convention Centre in the city for smooth investigation.

At least ten people were killed and 50 others injured in a stampede at the
Qulkhawani of former mayor of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) ABM Mohiuddin
Chowdhury at Rima Convention Centre here on Monday.
