European stock markets rebound

LONDON, Oct 24, 2018 (BSS/AFP) – European stock markets rebounded at the
open on Wednesday after slumping the previous session.

London’s benchmark FTSE 100 index rose 0.4 percent to 6,981.11 points.

In the eurozone, Frankfurt’s DAX 30 index climbed 0.2 percent to 11,298.65
points and the Paris CAC 40 was up 0.6 percent to 4,995.77.

Global stocks tumbled Tuesday, with Frankfurt losing more than two
percent, on geopolitical risks stretching from US tensions with Russia and
Saudi Arabia to trade issues with China, as well as Italy’s budget stand-off
with the European Union.

Banking stocks were in focus Wednesday following mixed earnings from
Deutsche Bank and Barclays.

Deutsche’s share price slumped 3.4 percent, while Barclays rose 0.6
percent in initial deals.
