Two killed, 17 injured in Rangpur road crash

RANGPUR, Oct 24, 2018 (BSS) – Two passengers were killed and 17 others
injured in a road accident at Khejmatpur point on the Rangpur-Dhaka highway
under Pirganj upazila here on Tuesday night, police said.

The accident occurred when a Dhaka bound night coach from Kurigram hit
another Dhaka bound night coach from Lalmonirhat from the behind while
overtaking the later and overturned there after the driver lost control over
the steering around 11:30 pm.

“Two passengers of the Dhaka bound night coach from Kurigram were killed
and 17 others injured in the accident,” In-charge of Barodorga Highway Police
Camp Moazzem Hossain told BSS today.

Police forces from Pirganj Thana, Barodorga Highway Police Camp and Fire
Service and Civil Defense personnel from Pirganj Station rushed to the spot,
rescued the injured persons and sent them to Pirganj Upazila Health Complex.

The deceased persons were identified as Khoybar Ali, 55, of Bhurungamari
upazila and Sukumar Roy, 35, of Rajarhat upazila in Kurigram district.

“Later, 12 of the injured persons were released from Pirganj Upazila
Health Complex after providing primary aid and five seriously injured
passengers sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital,” Hossain added.

After completing legal formalities, the bodies were handed over to their
relatives and a case was filed in this connection with Pirganj Thana today.
