BD-India shipping secretary level meeting begins in Delhi tomorrow

DHAKA, Oct 23, 2018 (BSS)-Bangladesh-India Shipping Secretary level meeting will begin in New Delhi tomorrow.

A 14-member team led by Shipping Secretary Md Abdus Samad left here for India today to attend the 3-day meeting, said a media release.

During the meeting, the two sides will discuss shipping related issues.

Besides, there is high possibility of signing agreements-Standard Operating Procedure (SPO) for movement of passenger and tourist cruise between the two countries and amendments to the Bangladesh-India Protocol on Inland Water Transit and Trade (PIWTT).

Both sides are also expected to sign an agreement allowing India to use Chittagong and Mongla ports to transport cargoes to its north-eastern states.

PIWTT was first signed on November 1, 1972 and the tenure of the agreement ended on March 31, 2015. Bangladesh and India signed PIWTT again on June 6 in 2015.
