Country observe one Health Day to create mass awareness on avian flu

SANGSAD BHABAN, Oct 23, 2018 (BSS) – Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Anisul Islam
Mahmud today said the country is being observed one Health Day on November 10 every year in
order to create awareness about the avian influenza among the people.

The minister said this while responding to a query made by treasury bench lawmaker M Abdul Latif
during the question-answer session in the house here.

The one Health Bangladesh, a programme constituted jointly by the Ministry of Health and Family
Welfare, Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock and Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change,
conducts the presence of avian influenza virus test through collecting the blood and bird shit, said the
minister.

244 species of migratory birds usually arrive in Bangladesh every year during the winter season.

Of those migratory birds, 21 species of birds usually carry the avian influenza virus.
