JS passes Shishu (amendment) Bill, 2018

SANGSAD BHABAN, Oct 22, 2018 (BSS) – The Shishu or Child (amendment) Bill, 2018 passed in the Jatiya Sangsad in an amended form with a view to ensuring the development and growth of the children.

Social Welfare Minister Rashed Khan Menon today moved the bill in the House which was unanimously passed by voice votes with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.

Piloting the bill, Menon said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman enacted the Shishu Act in 1974 after the independence with an objective to ensure the welfare, safety and right of the children.

Subsequently, the Child Act, 2013 was enacted through befitting the Shishu Act, 1974 in order to materializing child right charter of the United Nations, he noted.

The proposed Shishu (amendment) Act, 2018 came in order to amendment of few section of the child act, 2013, the minister detailed.
Earlier, the proposed Shishu (amendment) Act, 2018 was placed in the House on September 18 in 2018 and then it was sent to the parliamentary standing committee for providing report after further scrutiny.
