DHAKA, April 4, 2017 (BSS) – Saima Wazed Hossain, Chairperson of Bangladesh National Advisory Committee for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders, today said children with autism need special intervention and caring to unlock their hidden talent for making valuable contribution to the society.

“Autism is very complex disorder of children….. So they should be treated differently with very special facilities to grow up better,” she told the launching ceremony of an art book at the 136th Assembly of Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC).

Speaker of Bangladesh Parliament Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury addressed the function as the chief guest while IPU President Saber Hossain Chowdhury addressed it as the special guest. Parliamentarians and delegates of different countries including, members of Shuchona Foundation and campaigners for autism, among others, were present at the function.

Narrating her advocacy for launching autism campaign to extend support to those families having autistic children and other forms of disabilities, Saima said, “I was encouraged to work on autism when I saw haplessness and immense suffering of parents and family members of autistic children in my country.”

“I talked to children with autism and their parents. Most of parents of autistic children do not know how to deal with these special children. There was stigma regarding autism in the society, which was increasing vulnerability of these children,” she added.
